When Humphrey Bogart met on the set of the Hemingway adaptation To Have and Have Not, Lauren Bacall he was 45 and she 19. He was in a miserably loveless marriage, thoughts of suicide danced in his head and the drinking became worse. In comes a sultry teenager with long legs and a smoky voice and the rest is history.

Memorable Quote: You know you don't have to act with me, Steve. You don't have to say anything, and you don't have to do anything. Not a thing. Oh, maybe just whistle. You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and... blow. 


*an interesting aside, the persona that Bacall based her character Slim in To Have and Have Not, is actually based on director Howard Hawk's wife Slim Keith. Hawks was so taken by Bacall and her impersonation of his wife that he two fell for the 19 year old.
